Hey Alan what part do you use for your IR detector/receiver? radioshack one but it doesn't give the datasheet... i ripped an ir detector off an old satellite dish receiver but i haven't been able to successfully use it because i don't know the pin layout. (i think i might have fried it) i'm using the remote to send ir signals to it, but so far nothing.

The standard IR pair at Radio Shack should work fine. We don't advertise them separately but you could buy them from us also.

Hi ... I did some web search on Stair Lights and one of the result shown was your website on Electronic Projects ... It was a great website and BKM for me.

Thanks a lot & more affordable projects to come.

Hello,

I found your site while looking for a way to light our basement stairs. Can you give me an idea of how bright the pre-assembled LEDs you sell are (with the pre-assembled kit)? We're looking to use them with carpeted stairs, so we won't have the reflection from the vinyl shown in the videos. Thanks.

The lights would still shine enough light to properly light the steps enough to walk on. May customers have installed them on carpeted stairs.

Hi, I found your site doing a search for stair lights. I realy like your project. Is there a simple way to incorporate an infrared motion sensor to trigger the lights? I'm redoing a carpet stair case in oak and was going to install basic led's that would be triggered by a motion sensor but I like your fade trick better. Can the turn off time be adjusted easily? (longer delay?). Thanks for your time.

Hi Marco,

Yes, many people have used motion sensors to control the lights, regular alarm system motion detectors work great. We can provide a hook-up diagram in your order.

The time delay for the lights is programmable, this page goes over the details of how to do it.

You may want to look into linear actuators to handle that much weight.

Sir I have one question, what is the significance of that study about the hard drive clock?

I hope that you will answer my question Sir...

Thank you...

I am not sure what study you are referring to. The reason I chose to make the clock out of the hard drive was because I wanted to recycle the hardware.

Sorry, that feature isn't available in the firmware that is provided. It is possible to do though.
