Hi Alan. I think the stair lights are great. What is the source code written in. The .bas extension implies a version of basic, but which one ?

Alan, is there a way to run the stair controller from battery voltage? I would like to make it solar charged eventually?
Replied on: 7:01pm 09-27-2006

Hi Chris,

It can be run from a 12 Volt battery just fine.

You must use a PIC programer. Some machines will do EPROMs and PIC chips but it is rare.

hi Alan.. i'm trying to do the small project of the blue bawls but seems like stg is wrong.. when i put on the supply, the LED jus lights up...

Try one of the other assorted photo cells, you need one that is high resistance when in darkness.

Hi Fonz,

There is no diagram for this device, it was just hand built at the time from quick hand drawn diagrams.

Hi Alan!! Fantastic projects u have there!! esp the hard drive clock. i plan to do one myself... but i've no idea how it really happen with the 12 LEDs? how actually does it works? any explanation on it is very much appreciated... i jus doesn't know how the LED will "move"
Replied on: 6:03pm 09-01-2006

Hi Stanley,

The LEDs are fixed in place, the slot is the only thing that is moving. The LEDs are then flashed at the correct time to shine the light through the slot.

Hi Alan, your hard drive clock is truly brilliant!! what made you think of the idea?? I really like your stair lights as well & feel sufficiently inspired to do something similar here.... (!) Regards, Chris

Thanks Chris,

I came up with the hard drive clock after taking a hard drive apart and thinking what it could be made into.
