I want to make an underwater fish pond light. Can the lights and resistors be potted in epoxide and be operated underwater? I don.t just to just drill holes in a waterproof flashlight and seal the wires. I have been using sealed beam auto headlights but the get too hot,

Hi Bernie,

That would work fine. Send in some pictures when you are done. I would love to see how they look.

Hey Alan,
Awesome projects. I was thinking of buying some LEDs from you and using them to build slippers with headlights for the night-time. Any ideas on how to make them pressure sensitive only during the night.
I know that would include a photoresistor and somekind of click button or pressure pad, but I'm not exactly sure about where to hook the photoresistor in the circut. Could you send me a diagram or just tell me where to put it?

Hi Mitch,

Sounds like a fun project! You could use this circuit:

You have some cool projects that I would like to build. I am an electrician but I know very little about electronics. I am very eager to learn and I would like to learn how to program the chip in the fish tank project and find out what exactly I need to do the programming.

Hi Joe,

Do an Google search for PIC programmers. There are many out there. Unfortunately the one that I am using currently is no longer produced. I am not sure which ones are the best right now...

Thinking about getting your stair kit, i'm forced to gain access only from the bottom of the stairs (going thru drywall) which i hope is enough room to manuever
Any ideas?

You could get the lights unassembled and connect them to long leads, this could then be fished into the wall.

Cool site and cooler projects. I am in the process of getting parts together to ATTEMPT a propeller clock/message project. You gave me an idea of how to get the power to the board on top of the motor. Hopefully this project takes off. Thanks for some cool ideas.

What are you interested in? Something that could use this technology would be interesting:

I would suggest posting your question on the forum, more people will see it there.

Either way let us know what you decide and I would love to see the final results.

All of your inventions are very interesting and I will attempt to build a few of them. Amazing!

Let your imagination take you away.

HI,
I have been looking into the HDD Clock project. I have several drives that i could use. If i remove the read/write assembly in any of these drives the disks will continue to be abl to spin/powerup but after about 20 seconds they stop again. this only happens when the arms are removed. i cant see how exactly you did i but i was just removing the whole thing, magnents and all. did you leave part of this and just physically cut off the arms at the halfway point? I have tried reconnecting the arms( just the cable) without mounting them again but it still powers down after a few seconds. Any Help would be appreciated.

thanx Colin

Hi Colin,

I just cut a portion of the arm off using a grinder. It sounds like yours is a voice coil head (mine was a stepper motor). With a voice coil it would be possible for the circuit to detect that the coil is removed (open). Also some drives are smart enough to recognize that they are not connected to a computer and spin down after some time.

Hi,
I am working on that Hard Drive clock project. I don't know why, but when I hook up the power supply (with Red, two black, and Yellow wires) into the hard drive nothing is happening. The Hard drive is fairly new and the power supply is new. Anything I need to know?

Hi Matt,

Some new hard drives are "smart" and will not simply spin up when power is attached. The ones that I have taken apart all did but they were quite a few years old.
